The Lone Ranger - Trailer

The Lone Ranger comes under the genre of Western Action film.

The Lone Ranger uses the USP of being a part of the Disney family. By being a part of Disney it already reaches out to a wide audience as Disney is known around the world for delivering their high quality entertainment; this means that the film is going to be able to reach across all range of ages.
Another USP
would be the cast, Johnny Depp, Depp has starred in many Disney film and other industries. He is known for his role as Capitan Jack Sparrow, Mad Hatter, Sweeny Todd, Willy Wonka, Barnabas Collins and many more. By starring a big name such as Depp they are reching their audience even further as he attracts many variations of audiences. Also staring in the film is the actor Armie Hammer, he has not played many big roles in the films that he has been in, this means that he is now able to bring that new actor aspect into the film, as people won't know what to expect from him, whereas with Johnny Depp he is going to have to meet the viewer's expectations.
The story of the Lone Ranger is highly known, this means that it is going to appeal to a wider audience as they will have a vague idea of what the film is going to consist of. Whether you're a fan of the Western Film Genre or just a fan of action films, this is going to have been appealing to every aspect that they could trying to bring the audience in.

As the trailer starts we see a black and white Disney logo which we zoom into fading into a vast open wasteland which we now associate with the Wild West. This symbolic code automatically makes us this that this film is going to be a cowboy film, filled with hourseback chases, gunslingers, standoffs, and Red-Indians. These are the ideas that we are brought to from seeing that beginning scene.

This is The End - Trailer

This is The End comes under the genre of Comedy/Horror/Fantasy.

This is The End features the idea of the actors within the film playing themselves. This means that they are able to both mock and praise themselves in ways that are going to amuse the audience.
The use of mocking and praising themselves allows the actors to use aspects of their careers to judge what they do. For instance for the actors who have recently been in successful films recently will praise themselves to extreme levels, and the one who haven't been in very successful films will mock themselves. But both will use the way that the media has presented them to the public to conform to that idea, push it to its edge and take every sense of it literally, or they will completely go against what has been said.

The trailer features the idea that celebrities are spoilt and whiny then include a section of the film where the men are auguring about who gets to eat the Milkyway. This re-enforces the idea that they feel like they should get what they want because they are famous and that when they don't get it then they throw a temper tantrum. This appeals to the audience as it gives them something that they can understand and relate to in the sense of knowing that the media twist things to make them more interesting for the audience. This appeals to the audience as it provides a comic plot twist as the actors are having to play themselves in a different persona to follow the way that they are presented, this gives the audience that level of understanding as they have heard that the actor acts in a certain way and so they don't have to get use to the idea that this actor is nothing like how they have been discribed as. But also as because they are being so against the way that they have been presented that they are able to make a joke out of that. All of this allows the audience to enjoy the film as much as the actors when they were making it.
The extensive use of celebrities featured in this film appeals to a wider audience, for instance, featuring Channing Tatum, this means that it is going to reach out to a wider female audience because he is known for his good looks and muscles. Also, the cameo appearance from Emma Watson, this reaches to most obviously Harry Potter fans, a lot of fans of the Harry Potter series will want to see how the actors do in other films, and because Emma Watson has not done a lot of comedy films this means it gives them a chance to see her in a different aspect. Rhianna's cameo appearance in the trailer just reaches to fans of the pop genre, and there is nothing that fan of a music artist love more than seeing them feature within a film as it gives them something else that they can relate that person to other than that music.

The Comedt Genre is portrayed straight away, the protagonists of the film are invited to a house party of a fellow celebrity. We cut to them arriving at the party and talking to the host, who tells them that he loves his house so much that it feels like it's just another part of him and that the two men have just entered him, in which they reply with "you let us both come inside you" using the sexual innuendo to appeal to a more mature audience. The trailer wants to let the audience know that this is going to be a film that they can sit back, relax and enjoy without having to pay too much attention. The codes and conventions of the comedy genre are shown by the small humour of violence, sexual innuendos and childish behaviour.

Skyfall - Poster

The Skyfall poster starts off grabbing the attention of the audience by showing them this vingate image of James Bond leaning against his classic Astin Martin car with Big Ben in the background.

The vintage colour allows the audience to get that feeling of old, this would be because the James Bond films have been around for such a long time, but they still keep delivering the same amount of astonishing content as they did when they first started. But because of the black and white colour of the poster it makes the 007 which is in a gold/bronze colour stand out. Although they chose to have the 007 smaller than the rest of the text, they still wanted the audience to be able to take note of it as some people may not know that this film is apart of the James Bond franchise. By making 007 stand out in some way it allows the audiences eye to be drawn to it.

USP? Skyfall uses the USP of being apart of the James Bond franchise, as this now reaches out to the fans of the James Bond series. Not to mention that James Bond is one of the most world wide known secret agent franchise going. This means that it is going to have a wide spread over the world. Another aspect of the film that would make it stand out to the audience would be the actor, Daniel Craig was also the man who played James Bond in Casino Royal and Quantum of Solace. This also means that it is easier for the audience as they are already sue to seeing him as the role of James Bond and so they won't have to get use to seeing another face as that iconic character. Another aspect of using Daniel Craig is that he has been known for his role in other atcion films such as Cowboys and Aliens and his roles in adventure films such as Lara Croft: Tomb Rader. This places him as an actor that is going to bring people into see the film as people may not be a fan of the James Bond franchise but are a fan of Daniel, but if that is so then you would probably already have seen the other James Bond films that he has been in and are already planning in seeing this one.
The poster also allows the audience know that the film is going to be avalable to watch in IMAX, this means that the visual and audieo quality are going to a spectacle themselves, meaning this is going to rech to the audience of film lovers that want to see what the film makers have been able to do with the film, they may not be there because they love the franchise, but they want to see the visual magic that is going to happen on the screen.

Looking closer at the poster you notice that James Bond is folding a gun in his right hand. This lets the audience know that there is going to be a high aspect of danger within the film, but of corse it would be a James Bond film without a number of chase/gun fight scenes, and what action film lover won't want to see a film that is going to be using both of them.

Django Unchained - Trailer

Django Unchained comes under the genre of Western.

Usually, the central plot of western films is the classic, simple goal of maintaining law and order on the frontier in a fast-paced action story. Normally rooted in archetypal conflict - good vs bad, heroes vs villains. The western hero usually stands alone and faces danger on his own, against the forces of lawlessness, with an expert display of his physical skills, whether that be roping, gun-play, horse-handling.

Within the trailer for Django Unchained we set up the USP of the actors that are going to be featured within this film, we start off by seeing that Jamie Foxx is going to be playing our Hero the main Protagonist Django, Christoph Waltz Is going to be playing the Dispatcher Dr. King Schultz, and Leonardo DiCaprio is going to be playing the main role of the Villain "Monsieur" Calvin J. Candie. This sets up some names that are going to attract an audience, as they have seen these men in many different film such as: Jamie Foxx has played Darryl in Due Date, Nick Rice in Law Abiding Citizen and others; Christoph Waltz has played August Rosenbluth in Water For Elephants, Cardinal Richelieu in The Three Musketeers; Leonardo DiCaprio has played Jack Dawson in Titanic, Dom Cobb in Inception.
These names bring up some films that have been known of by everyone. This causes the film to reach out to a wider audience as they grasp the fans of the actors, not just the fans of the genre.

The narrative of the trailer starts with a state of equilibrium of two men on horseback travelling with several black male slaves that they will sell off to the highest bidder. This gives a sense of the time period that blacks were not treated as equals, they were abused and used to treat the white as in they were royalty.
We then have the disruption of the equilibrium when Dr. King Schultz frees Django from being a slave and offers him a chance to get revenge upon the men that enslaved him and his wife, of whom he was separated from.
The Recognition that the equilibrium has been broken is when Django realises that they only chance he is going to have to get his wife back would be to agree to Dr. King Schultz's deal and help him eliminate the Brittle Brothers, of which Django knows who they are.
The attempt to repair is shown through Django going around hunting and killing the members of the Brittle Brothers and anyone who assisted them. This shows the determination of Django and love he has for his wife as he knows what kind of conditions that slaves can be placed in. He knows that he is the only one who is going to be able to save her.
But of course because this is just a trailer and they don't want to give to much away to the audience they are not going to show the reinstatement of the equilibrium. As this is what is going to bring the audience into watch the film, the enigma question of "is Django going to succeed?"

The verbal code used within the trailer with such lines as "I like the way you die boy" gives the audience the idea that Django is going to enjoy his role as a bounty hunter in his quest of vengeance against the group of people who took away his wife and sold her into slavery. But this also adds the sub-plot question of is Django going to get too caught up in his quest for revenge and not know when to stop, sending him on a spree killing anyone who he fills doesn't deserve to live.
The line "I will agree to give you your freedom" allows the audience to know that this story is going to be more that a fight for survival and vengeance but also the freedom of himself from slavery. The story seems to feature a domino effect, for Django to complete his long term goal of finding and freeing his wife he is going to have to complete a series of other tasks to be able to build up to the big fight that is bound to happen at the end.

The symbolic aspects such the image of Django's arms breaking out of his wrist chains supports the title of the film being Django Unchained but this also allows the audience to get symbolic interpretation that it is not going to be an easy task, chains aren't the easiest of things to physically break out of metal chains. This allows the audience to know that there is going to a struggle for Django to complete his task.
Another symbolic aspect are the sub-settings of Plantations, this connotes slaves and rich business men. Now because we know that Django is a black male we know that this is going to make life difficult for him, living in the times period that he does, but this adds to the suspense of the film, as they see a man rise up against all odds against a group of outlaw/slave traders, to find and free his love.

GI Joe 2 Retaliation - Trailer

GI Joe 2 comes under the genre of action/Si-Fi.

The trailer starts with a long shot, allowing the audience to get an idea of the area that they are in, a man on a bike rides into shot and stops, the lighting is low-key giving the sense of danger and mystery. We fade away to show an arsenal of guns, giving the audience that glimpse of the high tech weaponry in the film. we then cut back to the man on the bike but now in a close up of his hands holding a tube, which turns out to be full of tiny robotic spy bugs. This really sinks the audience into that high tech Si-Fi feeling of the film.
This trailer uses a series of short clips, allowing them to show as much of the high tension moments that are really going to draw the audience in, but because the clips are short it won't reveal any key plots/twists of the film that they don't want to.

The camera angles that are used when showing the GI Joe team are slightly low angles, giving the team that look of authority. The audience know that this team is in power at this time. Then the helicopters attack, and for all the shots showing them the camera is at a very low angle, allowing the audience to get the feeling that these weapons have full authority and power over the scene. Once the attack is over and the GI Joe team have emerged from their hiding place then are shown with high angle shots, showing that this attack has wounded them, not physically but mentally and emotionally. We now get the sense that they no longer have the power.

The makers want the audience to be amazed both by the things that GI Joe have and do, and also by what the makers of the film have done with special effects, cinematography, ect. This is done by once again showing short clips of men picking up guns, preparing their swords

White House Down - Trailer

The trailer for White House Down begins by showing us a news report that there has been an attack on America. This is all shown through a distorted TV screen. This allows the trailer to show short clips of what has happened, giving the audience a wide view of the panic and chaos that has fallen upon this country. We then track forwards towards The White House which is on fire, showing the audience that one of the most secure and monumental part of America has been destroyed. This allows the audience to get an understanding of how bad this situation is, and what other way to follow up clips that show chaos? This trailer follows up with silence, and text on a black background, showing small clips every few seconds, this allows the audience to focus their attention on what the words say. The words shown all sink together to read 'America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.'

Safe Haven - Trailer

The trailer for Safe Haven starts off by setting up an Enigma Code, the narrative straight away wants to hook the audience, so they start off by offering a question to us, 'Why is she running and who from?' this is a method that all trailers use. This is because nothing makes someone want to watch a film more than to find out what the answers are.

Once this question has been set up we move on to the life that this woman has tried to escape too. This gives us the state of equilibrium. Allowing us to get an idea that she can start a new life, and attempt to hide from her past. But as an audience member we all know that hiding from your past in a film never works, it will come out and it will effect how the film moves on. But within this moment of equilibrium we see that there is going to be a love story between this woman who is hiding from her past and a man who has bad history as well, this gives the idea that they can use each other to fill those wholes which have been created by their past.
Now we move on to the disruption of the equilibrium this is when we see that the police that are tracking this woman have found her and are now looking for her in this town. This is going to have a huge impact on all the people that she now hold close to her as she has hidden this part of her life from them, this also allows us to know that this is going to have the most impact upon her lover.
The recognition of the disruption is shown by the woman's friends (who is the only one in the town who knows about her past) tells her that the people who are looking for her are in the town and that they know she is here. This allows that audience to now begin to see how this is going to effect her new life. The atmosphere completely changes, before the recognition the trailer gave off this happy feeling due to the idea that she is going to be able to start her life again and have a new chance at happiness with her new lover. But now we get the sense of panic, this is show by now the short clips shown of the trailer have a lower-key lighting than the ones used in the previous clips. This gives the audience the feel of her past slowly beginning to take over her new life. The woman is now faced with the fact that she now has to tell her lover the truth about her past.
This leads to him telling her that he is not going to let her go and that he will help her sort this problem out. This is the attempt to repair the disruption. We now know that the film is now going to consist of them hiding her from the police and them both trying to find a way to getting the police to leave her alone. Of course as the audience we know that this is not going to be simple as that would not provide the audience with much entertainment.
And of course because this is a trailer it is not going to show or hint towards what/if there is a reinstatement of the equilibrium. This is because, being a trailer, it does not want to give you the answers to the questions that are going to bring you in to watch the film. The questions are the line connected to the hook that is going to reel you in.

The narrative of the trailer seems to show in chronological order, starting with showing the event which causes Katie Feldman to flee her home and seek a new life. We then see her arriving at the location where the film will be mostly set, a town in North Carolina called Southport. This is where she meets a new friend, Jo, and then later meets the love interest Alex Wheatley. This sets us up with the typical romance story of: boy falls in love with girl, girl tries to fight her feelings for boy, they go on a date, girl allows herself to fall in love with boy. Which in doing so now create a relationship that the film can play with, this is done by the police who are chasing Katie find out that she is living in Southport and they are now their looking for her. This means that Katie is faced with the fact that she now has to tell Alex about her past and why she is being chased by the police. Causing disruption between the couple. But because of their love Alex stands by Katie and helps her find a way out of her problem with the police. From all of this the audience understand that the key theme of the film would be the love between Katie and Alex.

The setting of the film is in a small town in North Carolina, and the time of the film is contampary with the release date of the film, 2012. This makes the film modern and appealing to a wide audience as they will be able to relate to some of the things that they can see within the film, such as the clothing, cars, ect.

The set for this film seems to be more of a shot on location film, meaning that scenes were shot at the place of which the film is set, rather than a set being built. This means that the film is able to look more realistic as people will be able to recognise the scenery and such.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug - Magazine Cover

The-Hobbit-The-Desolation-of-Smaug-Empire-Cover

In the Empires issue of The Hobbit, the cover features 3 Elves, one of which we all know to be Legolas from the Lord of the Rings.
From what we have seen in The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey we know what the Elves have not been very willing in assisting the protagonist and his companions in their journey. But from this cover we get the idea that the elves are going to have more of a n influence within the story. We know from the Lord of the Rings and from The Hobbit that the Elves do not wish to fight and only do when they feel it is greatly needed. But as we can see Legolas has his bow drawn and ready to fire, this hints to the audience that the danger for our protagonist is going to greatly increase.
The audience are forced into thinking about the role that the Elves are going to play as they are the predominant race on the cover. This is pushing you to think towards what we know of the Elves and now how we think they are going to act within this new film.
Around the Elves there is smoke and rubble, this is telling the audience that maybe the protagonists don't fully understand what it is that they are going to face at the climax of the film, the smoke shows the idea of shrouded and hidden. Another idea, fusing the idea of the smoke and the pyromaniacs of the Elves, would be that the Elves are going to try and lead Bildo Baggins away from their goal, they are going to try and hide some form of truth from the group of Dwarfs.

The three Elves are stood infront of the Empire title, giving off the idea that they play an important role to the story.

The Vow - Trailer

Romantic Drama

The Vow targeted the audience of a female audience aged 13+. This audience is met from the use of a love story that is deeply effecting and of course the use of Channing Tatum. The film needs to do more than to just look like it has a good story. It need to appeal to the eyes of many female audience members, and what better way to do that than to include an attractive male to play the lading man?
Channing Tatum has been in films featuring the action genre such as G.I. Joe and 21 Jump Street (With a side of comedy). Plus films that are purely designed to give the lady's something to look at like Magic Mike. Channing Tatum is a person who is going to be able to deliver a character that is going to both tug on the heart strings of his audience while giving them something pleasant to look at.

The trailer set up a happy atmosphere with the combination of light scenes, happy music and seeing the love relationship between two people. This gives the audience that beginning smile that is going to make them sit back, relax and to enjoy this love story. This then changes when you hear Channing Tatums voice come over the music telling the audience that moments are important for they have the  power to change our lives, and that what would it be like if you could not remember any of them. This then ques for the equilibrium to be broken and the tradagy is to begin. This hit the audience as the happy music that has been playing is suddenly cut off by both the sight and sound of a truck hitting the car that Leo and Paige Collins are in. Adding even more drama to this sudden moment just happens to be at night, a time that we associate with danger.

We are shown the struggle that Leo is going to have to go through to try and get the love of his wife back. This emotional event plays with the heartstrings of it's audience as it allows the audience to think about what it would be like to be married to someone and for them to suddenly not know who you are. Also as a there would be people in a relationship/partnership in the audience it focuses on a subject that is close to the hearts of any of the audience members. Allowing it to take more of an emotional effect upon the audience.

The Apparition - Trailer

The Apparition is a Horror genre film with the seb-genre of Supernatural Thriller

The trailer starts off with a narration of a scientific theory, this sets up the film letting the audience know that the film is going to focus around the idea of this theory. The narration goes on to tell us that a team are going to attempt to create a supernatural being. Now the audience knows the general idea of the film they are going to be already playing out the film in their heads, they are going to already have a general idea of what is going to happen. This idea is then confirmed.
Now the audience know that the equilibrium has been broken, the film is only going to increase in atmosphere. We all have seen what happens when people try to control something that they don't fully understand, this has been proven by the Jurassic Park trilogy. But this just add to the audience fear of what is to come. Sometimes the most fearful of moments is anticipation, you know something is going to happen and you're waiting for it, body tensed, ready to hide your eyes. Films play with this idea and have many false climatic builds within the film making the audience loose that protective guard, for they never know when something is going to happen.

Horror genres take some of the common every day things that we fear and think about and play with them, they don't want to watcher to feel safe, they want them to feel as they are being watched. What fun would that be. Films are designed to get your adrenalin pumping, but each genre do it in a different way, Horror have to use fear other wise they will not appeal to the audience.
A lot of people argue that ghosts aren't real and that things that we think are ghosts are simply our mind playing trick on us, this film plays with that idea. It takes that theory and pushes it to the limit. Using the idea that it exists because we make it exist. This will both play with the minds of the sceptical and the believers.

The trailer does not tell us who the actors are but that doesn't stop us seeing them, Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan, Tom Felton and Julianna Guill. Tom Felton is most known for his role as Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films. Ashley Greene is most known for her role as Alice Cullen in the Twilight films. Stanastain Stan has been in a few films, one of which being the role James "Bucky" Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger. Julianna Guill is best known for her role as Bree in the 2009 film Friday the 13th.
People who want to see this film would have at least seen one of these actors in a film before, making it interesting for them to find out how this actor is going to impact the film. Another interesting aspect would be the actors are most known for their action/fantasy roles from previous film, making this interesting to see how they act in a different scenario than they have been best known for doing.

The trailer itself uses dark lighting allowing the audience get the idea of the ominous atmosphere that is to come from this film. The darkness allows the audience to get that feeling of isolation and plays with the fear of the unknown, because nothing is scarier than something you know is there but you can't see it. Playing with darkness is a typical aspect from horror genre films. The trailer wants to show the audience enough for them to ask question and to be demanding answers, this means that they have got to show enough to get their attention but not enough to give the story away for the audience, as no one likes spoilers. This trailer does so by showing the staring disruption to the equilibrium and the panic that follows from this, but it does not hint in any way how they try to over come that disruption and if they succeed of not. Doing the job that the trailer is designed to do.

Mirrors - Poster

How can we tell that this film is a horror?
There are different things within this image that allow us to understand that the film is of horror genre, one of which being that fact that at the bottom of the poster, left hand side, the text reads 'THERE IS EVIL' this is a big hint to the audience that the film is horror. Another key element that informs the audience of the genre would be the worried look upon the woman's face, she looks scared and worried. This lets the audience know that this film is going to have an effect on this family. Another aspect that adds to the horror feel of the film would be from using all the characters on the poster looking at the same position leading the audiences eye away from the majority of the poster, this then leaves the audience asking questions, and from assistance from the title of the film they know that what the people fear isn't whats under the water but whats can be seen on it.

USP?
Horror films seem to use the idea of fearing what you can't see, but this film gives the opposite idea, the use of mirrors intends for the audience to fear what they can see for some things are never what they seem. Something as harmless as a reflection could be the cause of a persons demise.
When you look at film posters they normally list all of the actors that you can see on the poster, but this one does not, it simply focuses you attention to the main character Kiefer Sutherland. This allows the viewer to understand that this film is going to have a huge impact and influence upon this character. But why would they include the other two in the poster if they wanted your attention to be focused on Kiefer? Because they want you to be able to know that what ever happens in the film is going to effect him but we now get the idea that it is going to be in the indirect way of threw his family. This is making people start to relate to the character already for the targeted audience are going to understand what it is like to have a family that they love and care about. This manes that when the family on screen becomes threatened they emphasise for the character because they begin to put themselves into that situation.
The poster uses the motto of 'THERE IS EVIL ON THE OTHER SIDE' when we this of 'the other side' the most common idea would be death, heaven, after life or anything of that general idea. But this film poster pushes you to think beyond that because there are many different kinds of other sides that are in our every day lives that could still be just as fearful and deadly as the dead.

Colour?
This poster uses a Low Key light to give the poster a more ominous look to it. Making the audience feel venerable, for nothing makes a person feel more venerable than knowing that something is there, but not being able to see it. Horror film play off the idea of being afraid of the dark, but they use the logical understanding that people aren't afraid of the dark, they are afraid of whats in the dark (Afraid of the unknown). Horrors remind us of the things that can happen when we're not looking and that is what makes people scared, the idea that what they see on the screen could be happening, they just wouldn't know it. When watching a horror film the scenes which seem to have the most tension is when the main character is facing away from the danger that is approaching them, because we can see this figure walking up behind them, we know what is going to happen, but the character does not. This is all played with when posters use Low Key lighting, films that use Low Key want to induce either fear, mystery, suspense, danger, ect.
The mirrors poster uses both High and Low Key lighting, the High Key is where the family are together adding the idea that they are safe, but the Low Key is used under their feet and around them, making the audience get the idea that there is no escape, they are surrounded. Allowing the audience to feel even more danger.

Convection of Posters?
Poster are just another way of advertising a film or product. They want to be able to catch the eye of people in the street and begin to set up questions. The main drive that is going to make people want to watch a film is to answer the question that they have begun to ask in their head. Even if it is simply a question like 'I like that actor, I wonder how they are going to effect the film' even a question as simple as that will begin to make this observer want to watch the film.

Mirrors - Trailer

Mirrors comes under the genre of Horror and the sub-genre supernatural

The trailer shows us that the story will focus about a man called Ben Carson who is positioned at the night guard of Mayflower, a luxury department store that was gutted by a fire and shuttered for close to a decade. The store is still filled with numerous mirrors around the store.
We learn that Ben Carson has two children, one daughter and one son. This sets up the family relationship that will add a different atmosphere to the film making the audience react if different ways than they would if the man was alone.
We then see the logos of the makers of the film reversed, as if we are looking at them threw a mirror, adding to the title of the film and already making the audience feel amerced within the film.
The audience starts to get the sense of an ominous presses within the film as the calm and happy music fades away and is replaced by a jittery violin as if the bow is being bragged down the strings making it screech. This is followed by seeing Ben Carson standing in front of a mirror, his reflection is blurred making our attention focus on him. While your attention is drawn on the 'real' Ben his reflection turns to look at him, within the 'real' Ben moving. Now because your attention has been focused on Ben this means that you would have either missed this moment or would have caught eye of it. making this scene seem ever creepier when you go back and watch it again. Because we all see things we didn't see the first time when we watch it again, and how else would you make that clip seem even creepier? By adding a soon followed moan of pain accompanied with Ben turning frantically towards the creation of the sound. This adds to the ominous feeling that even when Ben is alone, he is never fully alone.
After seeing a few short clips that show Ben searching we find Ben looking at a mirror that has a ghostly hand print on it, Ben is curious of this and so, following the typical horror aspect of 'if you don't know what it is go towards it', places his hand over the print. For about a second nothing happens but when you think all is calm the glass breaks sending Ben to the floor in shock leaving him vulnerable.
Now the film allows us to get an understanding of what happened before Ben got their. We cut to Ben sitting at a desk on the phone asking someone to run a chack on the man that worked at the Mayflower before him. Results obviously do not come back with very pleasing news. We cut to seeing the man that worked at the Mayflower before him posishing a broken mirror and begging, what seems like his reflection, for his life. This is followed by a peice of the glass falling off, and being picked up by the guard, but as the man bends over to pick up the shard his reflection does not, he just simple watched as he does so. While this happens we hear the music slowly building to it's climax as you know that this is not going to end well for the guard.
